Overall size: Dia69 cm Bahaudin is an Indonesian contemporary visual artist based in Yogyakarta. He began his artistic career at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta, enrolling as a Fine Art student in 2009 and completing his studies in 2015 with a final project focused on printmaking. His early practice centred on relief printmaking, which continues to influence his approach to form narrative and process, even as painting has become his primary medium. Working within the realm of Pop Surrealism, Bahaudin is recognised for his vibrant colour palettes, wide-eyed characters and cartoon-inspired visual language. His works combine playful visual elements with reflective narratives that address themes of peace, humanity, self-awareness and the emotional complexity of everyday life. Through symbolic figures and surreal compositions, he explores ideas of conflict, harmony and shared human experience. Since 2009, Bahaudin has exhibited in Indonesia and internationally, including solo exhibitions, biennales and major gallery presentations. His practice is informed by romance, culture, social dynamics and political realities, as well as by international influences such as David Hockney, Dulk, Takashi Murakami and Yoshitomo Nara. Today, he continues to develop a distinctive artistic universe that bridges popular culture, personal symbolism and contemporary Indonesian art discourse.
