ALO – Mary in Marrakech

Overall size: W51 x H83.5 cm Alo (Aristide Loria), often described as an Urban Expressionist, brings fine art into the public realm as a way of making it accessible beyond traditional gallery spaces. His delicate, introspective portraits explore the human condition through subtle pattern, gesture, and visual symbolism. Caught between past and present, his figures feel suspended in time, echoing the fleeting nature of urban life. Though his work frequently appears on the street, Alo is primarily a studio-based painter. Using traditional brushes and paint for both indoor and outdoor works, he consciously avoids spray paint, creating an aesthetic that sits apart from conventional urban art. Most of his street pieces are uncommissioned and unpaid, reflecting his belief that public art should remain free and open to all. This new body of work continues his exploration of humanity through portraiture, expanding into larger-scale canvases, works on paper, and a developing focus on urban landscapes.
